Rory Delargy has today's Punting Pointers and he's got three recommended bets to consider.
Racing betting tips: Sunday June 8
1pt win Wodao in 1.50 Goodwood at 8/1 (General) - min 15/2
1pt win Modern Utopia in 3.35 Goodwood at 5/1 (General) - min 4/1
1pt win Racingbreaks Ryder in 5.20 Goodwood at 4/1 (General) - min 7/2
1.50 Goodwood
The rain rather missed Epsom on Friday night into Saturday, but Goodwood got their fair share, with 12mm falling to turn the ground soft and with the threat of more to come on Saturday itself, you can bet the Sussex rollercoaster is going to ride somewhere between soft and heavy.
The pair who appeal most in the conditions are WODAO and Fine Interview with the latter having proven fitness on his side but unsurprisingly much shorter in the betting. Wodao hails from the Jamie Osborne yard that won the Victoria Cup with seasonal debutant Hickory last month.
Wodao ran his best races last season on ground with some cut over this C&D, including when not beaten far on his seasonal reappearance. That wasn't the first time he’s run well after an absence and while he hasn’t actually won on soft/heavy ground, he’s made the frame on all but one of his handicap starts on such a surface.
3.35 Goodwood
Soft ground asks a new question of a few of these. I’m keen to see how Anna Swan gets on; she missed an engagement at Epsom to chance her hand here and soft ground will undoubtedly suit her, but that was a poor effort on her reappearance, quicker ground given the blame.
I liked her a lot last at Yarmouth last year, she was very professional when scoring on her debut and there’s still time for her to turn things around.
However, it’s MODERN UTOPIA that catches the eye the most here. A lovely, tall, well built filly, she revelled in soft/heavy ground last season, winning by big margins at Nottingham and Newmarket, and although on the face of it she's been a little disappointing, getting beaten seven lengths by Minnie Hauk at Goodwood last time suddenly doesn’t look so bad; this trip and ground look ideal and I expect her to get back on track here.
5.20 Goodwood
RACINGBREAKS RYDER can enhance an already solid record at Goodwood with success here. He’s yet to win in five starts here but has hit the frame three times, and that includes a second on heavy ground here last October when finding the enigmatic Platinum Prince on a going day.
He made no mistake on soft ground at Catterick on his next start, winning four lengths, and underfoot conditions here should be perfect, with his record over 7f on good to soft or softer ground reading two wins and a second from five starts.
Two starts on the all-weather this season should have set him up nicely for this, and a back-to-form third to Al Ameen last time out signified a win wasn’t far away now.
